Privacy policy

This page explains what this site collects, what third parties may set, and how to reach us. Last updated 20 September 2026.

The YA Desk is operated by Stewart Ferris / Upcott Studios. Contact: [email protected]. Postal and further details: stewartferris.com.

What we collect

This site does not ask you to create an account and does not run a first-party mailing list from these pages. The hit counter on the home page is a public total of visits, not a record of who you are. A browser is counted once. A cookie then remembers that visit so refreshing the page does not add another one. The same number is printed on the page and published at /api/hits. Reading that address does not add a visit. The total is kept by hits.sh, which sees the request that adds a visit, but not your name or email.

Cookies and Google AdSense

Google AdSense may display advertising. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this and other sites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ cookies at aboutads.info.

This site’s ads.txt authorises publisher ID pub-4446639715209525.

Amazon Associates

The YA Desk participates in the Amazon EU Associates Programme and the Amazon Associates Program (United States). These affiliate programmes pay a fee for links to Amazon.co.uk (tag stewartferris-21) and Amazon.com (tag upcottstudios-20). As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon may set cookies when you follow those links. Their privacy notice is on Amazon’s own site.

Analytics and logs

The host may keep standard server logs (IP address, user agent, referring URL) for security and uptime. These are not used to build a marketing profile.

Your rights

If you are in the UK or EEA you may ask what personal data we hold, and to correct or delete it. In practice this site holds little or none about identified visitors. Email [email protected] and we will respond within thirty days.

Children

The writing advice is for adults writing about teenagers, not a service aimed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes

If this policy changes in a material way, the date at the top of the page will change. Continued use of the site after that date is acceptance of the revised policy.
